Melvina Turner, flute

Melvina Medley Turner is a self-taught musician who earned a spot in this Texas All-State Band in 1979 without ever taking a single music lesson.  She then attended UTSA on scholarship where she completed her BA in Music Performance.  She had always loved the legal profession and went on to be a Paralegal.

She has been a Board-Certified Paralegal in Personal Injury Trial Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization since 1995.  In 2012, Melvina returned to school at University of the Incarnate Word where she earned both a BA in Business Administration and an MBA with an emphasis in Human Resources.

Melvina is Principal Flute with the University of the Incarnate Word Orchestra, Principal Piccolo with Alamo Arts Symphony Viva, Principal Flute and Piccolo with the San Antonio Symphonic Band, and co-founder of River City Winds.  She is the past President of Mozart Festival Texas and is currently on the Board of Directors for the San Antonio Symphonic Band. In 2023, Melvina toured in Tuscany, Italy performing throughout the region and has been featured on multiple occasions with the Tuesday Musical Club. Melvina also teaches masterclasses at Memorial High School.

Over her many years of both teaching and performing, Melvina has learned that you can be in both a non-musical profession yet never give up on your musical aspirations.
